Liverpool wide player Sadio Mane will be deemed fit to turn out for Senegal in the last eight meeting against Equatorial Guinea in the Africa Cup of Nations over the weekend.
Mane was involved in a nasty clash of heads with Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha as both players challenged for the long ball but the former was not taken off the pitch despite concerns from the bench.
He went on to score the opening goal just minutes later which was followed up by the Liverpool man falling to the ground 13 minutes in the aftermath of him finding the back of the net to put his side in the lead.
With Senegal booking a quarter-final berth courtesy of the 2-0 win, there was talk doing the rounds that Mane could be in line to miss the forthcoming game with a knock.
Senegal manager Aliou Cisse, however, hinted ahead of Sunday’s outing that Mane was back in training and will be in the fray to make the team sheet, according to reports from The Liverpool Echo.
“He’s doing well.
“He resumed training yesterday. We’re gradually following his development and he’s going to train today.
“The clash between the two players was a serious one, but he’s a top-level athlete who knows his own body very well.
“When the clash happened he continued to play, our doctors came onto the pitch, the referee was there too. He was still conscious, the proof was him scoring the first goal.
“He still had his wits about him when he came off. There was no alert on the bench that pushed us to make a change.
“But I can reassure you, the health of Sadio Mane and of all the players is very important.
“We’ve never gambled with the health of our players, the result will not be placed on top of that.”
