Liverpool loanee Sepp van den Berg has expressed hopes of making it through the senior ranks at Anfield on the back of his short-term loan spell away from his parent club.
The Holland starlet signed for Championship outfit Preston North End earlier this year and has earned plaudits for his showings at the back for Alex Neil’s side who are poised for a mid-table finish in the second division of English football.
Amid recent reports claiming that Preston would be in the running to make another approach for the young centre-back ahead of this summer’s transfer window, Van den Berg in a recent interview with Liverpool Echo has said that he is hopeful of making a breakthrough for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side as he admitted that he has plenty of time to impress at Anfield which remains his dream.
“It’s been a hard season for Liverpool but hopefully when I go back to Liverpool, I’ll get a chance as well and be able to play then.”Â
“I’m still 19 so there is really no rush for me. My dream is to be able to play for Liverpool.
“I signed for five years when I came. I will have three years left in the summer. There is plenty of time for me.
“It’s my dream to play for Liverpool. That is all I think about in the long term, there is nothing else I think about.”
Klopp does not appear to have a lack of centre-back options within his first-team ranks heading into the new season with the first-choice pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez expected to be fully fit in time for the upcoming campaign.
Meanwhile, the Liverpool boss has remained on the hunt for additional reinforcements with Ibrahima Konate the likely option to arrive on Merseyside in the summer from RB Leipzig.
