Liverpool FC are willing to offload defensive starlet Sepp van den Berg this January on a loan deal as Jurgen Klopp wishes for the young central defender to game some valuable first-team minutes away from Anfield.
The decision to part ways with Van den Berg could be taken in spite of the injury crisis plaguing the Merseysiders’ backline since the turn of the top-flight campaign, with the first-choice central defender pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez expected not to feature again this season.
According to reports from Goal, Klopp is looking forward to the youth Dutch international to feature in regular first-team football as such opportunities have been hard to come by the 19-year-old defender’s way whilst turning out for the Premier League holders.
Despite the injury-hit defensive core of Klopp’s side this season, Van den Berg is yet to feature in top-flight football. The duo of Rhys Williams and Nathan Phillips have been preferred by Klopp to move up the pecking order at Anfield in the absence of the Van Dijk-Gomez combine.
Van den Berg’s potential exit this January transfer window in a loan deal could pave the way for Jurgen Klopp to splash the cash on adding a fresh face in his first-team ranks, even as the Liverpool FC gaffer played down speculation of his side’s plans over the month-long period.
