Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has claimed that some people are hoping that the club fails during a grueling schedule of fixtures this month.
The Merseyside giants are currently eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table and face a crunch game against Red Bull Salzburg to make it into the knockout phase of the Champions League tournament on Tuesday.
The Reds also have the Club World Cup and an EFL Cup quarter-final on their horizon before an intense festive period with plenty of games coming thick and fast.
There is no doubt that the entire Liverpool squad will be tested to its full capabilities, but Klopp has backed his players to respond to the challenge and accept being rotated in this intense run of games.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, the 52-year-old Klopp explained why a lot of people that are hoping that his team falters, “When you are in a good position there are a lot who celebrate early, some hope you fail. We are in a difficult situation with the games but accepted it. We have to deal with it. These players have a desire to show that they are good enough and they can deliver in moments like this. It is not that complicated; you just need players who understand the situation I know when you’re a football supporter, you want to play the best 11 all the time but this is not FIFA or the PlayStation. It’s just how it is.”
Liverpool has had an incredible start to the new season as they have yet to lose a game in England’s top flight this term but will be forced to field different teams in the League Cup and FIFA Club World Cup as the two tournaments take place in different continents just one day apart from each other.
