Southampton welcomed Liverpool at home as Match Day 2 fixture took center stage in the EPL. It was an interesting encounter as the Reds took the lead through attacker Sadio Mane. Klopp would be delighted with the results as his side managed a 1-2 away win against the Saints. Roberto Firmino was also on the score sheets as he doubled Liverpool’s advantage midway into the second half. As the Reds won 1-2 away from home we take a look at the possible lessons we have seen in this Premier League game.
Sadio Mane Flourishes for Liverpool
The Senegalese winger was in scintillating form for the Reds away from home. He started where he left off in the midweek game against Chelsea where he scored a brace and he found the net to give Liverpool the lead against his former club Southampton. He was exemplary just like he was against Chelsea with a brilliant finish outside the area while also linking up with the attacking duo of Roberto Firinino and Mo Salah in transition. He was largely unplayable as Southampton endured his presence on the pitch for most of the contest unable to cope with his movement and trickery.
Liverpool Needs Caution
Liverpool were 0-1 to the good heading into the break, thanks to a solitary strike from Sadio Mane. They got the second goal as Firinino showed quality in the box to find the second goal. However, they conceded a cheeky goal giving the host Southampton a chance in the game. This may prove decisive and most importantly disastrous for Liverpool if they come up against tougher opposition. They gave away the goal without responsibility as goal difference may be the defining factor for the side along in the season as the Reds seek Premier League glory later in the campaign.
Firmino Improves For Liverpool
The Brazilian forward proved that he’s good enough to chart the course for Liverpool ahead in the season as he’s proven on the Red shirt with his first goal of the season. He finished superbly thus sealing the win making it 0-2 away from home. This ensured that Southampton’s goal late on in the second period only meant for a consolation as the Reds picked up their second three points of the Premier League season on Match Day 2.
