Southampton boss Hasenhuttl admits his interest in Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino

Ralph Hasenhuttl has revealed that Southampton remains interested in signing Liverpool attacker Takumi Minamino this summer on the back of the player’s impressive second-half stint this past season for the Saints.

Minamino joined Hasenhuttl’s outfit in the January window after seeing his playing time decrease at Anfield with Jurgen Klopp having his star-studded attacking trio of Firmino, Mane and Salah along with new boy Diogo Jota to call upon.

The Japan international showed glimpses of his real quality in front of the goal with extended first-team involvement coming his way in the Southampton shirt despite turning out in only ten games for the Hampshire-based club.

Reports from HampshireLive cite Hasenhuttl’s interview to the news outlet in which the Saints manager admits to wanting to make a summer swoop for Minamino but added that it was up to Liverpool to make the final decision on the transfer talks between the two sides.

“The most important thing for him is that he gets a chance to play.

“We have had talks with them and they are not so sure what will happen with him because Liverpool may make some things happen in the transfer market.

“For him, it was important to play here. We gave him that chance to play and we have enjoyed having him here.”
