Spurs gaffer Jose Mourinho not playing down Liverpool’s title-challenger credentials

Tottenham Hotspurs manager Jose Mourinho expects Liverpool FC’s resurgence in form very soon amid the Merseyside outfit suffering a drastic run of results in recent weeks heading into Thursday’s meeting against Mourinho’s men.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have gone their last five Premier League outings without a win and now sit fifth in the English top-flight ladder as many believe that the Reds’ title-defence campaign is on the verge of an untimely conclusion.

However, speaking ahead of the midweek game at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium, Mourinho said that he has faith in Liverpool FC turning around their recent streak of showings for the best as the ex-Chelsea boss insisted that Klopp’s men will give their best to retain their Premier League crown over the course of the remainder of the season.

‘When you win it once you know you have the team to win it twice,’ said Mourinho, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

‘When you never win it you have always questions: What do we need to win it? We are not good enough to win it, what do we need to improve to win it?

‘When you win it you know you are the best team and Liverpool was not just about winning, it was about winning so comfortably. So they know the team they are and they know the players they have. And they know they can do it again.

‘Would anyone expect Liverpool to have a similar run to last season when winning, winning and winning non stop? I would not expect that as what they did was so difficult. And to win it the second time in the same way is even more difficult. But to win the title again I think they believe they can and I believe that is what they really want.’

Thursday’s visit for Liverpool FC comes at a time when the Merseysiders have emerged victorious in just one of their previous seven games across all competitions, with Sunday’s defeat at Old Trafford ending any hopes of Klopp’s side progressing further into the FA Cup.
