Steven Gerrard has admitted in a recent interview with Premier League legend Alan Shearer that it would be a ‘dream’ to manage his former side Liverpool FC in the coming years.
Gerrard remains one of the best players to have turned out in the Liverpool FC colours, and long after his retirement from playing activities, the current Rangers boss is still widely celebrated and revered amongst the Reds fanbase, with many even tipping Gerrard to succeed Klopp to the managerial hot seat at Anfield.
Speaking to Shearer in an interview for The Athletic, the ex-England skipper revealed that being appointed to the top job at Anfield would be quite a dream for him, however, the 40-year-old Gerrard made note of Jurgen Klopp’s tremendous success in charge of the Merseyside Reds as the German coach was labelled ‘one of the best’ by the club legend.
“Would I love to be the coach of Liverpool one day? Is it a dream? Of course,” said Gerrard.
“It’s a club that means everything to me but we’ve one of, if not the best, managers in the world who has been absolutely incredible since he came through the door and the success he’s delivered in the last couple of years means that Liverpool are in a fantastic place.”
“You know and I know, if one day that job ever becomes available, there will be a queue a mile long, full of top-class managers.”
Gerrard’s Rangers occupy the top spot in the Scottish league apart from securing qualification to the Last-32 of the UEFA Europa League as the Liverpool FC old boy’s stock continues to be on the rise in world football.
