Mohammad Salah’s goal against Atalanta in the mid-week meeting between the two sides was the Egyptian winger’s 21st Champions League goal in the Liverpool FC colours, tying for the goalscoring record with club legend Steven Gerrard.
According to the Mirror, the ex-Reds skipper and current Rangers boss hopes that Salah will go on to break his record as he continues to strive in the forward role for Jurgen Klopp’s side ever since his move to Anfield three summers ago.
Speaking after his side’s 3-3 draw in the Europa League against Benfica. Gerrard was generous in his praise for the world-class Liverpool FC attacker, saying that the 28-year-old is on course to smash more records in the process as the Reds’ march onto complete domination in their Champions League group.
“Records are there to be broken, of course they are.
“I was very proud to see Mo Salah equal my scoring record for Liverpool in Europe, it was only a matter of time.
“I honestly think he’ll go on and embarrass my record — and I hope that he does.”
Salah’s goalscoring numbers in the Reds’ shirt have been unmatched by former and current players who have graced the halls of Anfield, and the Egyptian international has no doubt made a long-lasting mark on the Merseyside club despite entering just into his fourth season with the 19-time top-flight champions.
