Stumbling block behind FC Barcelona’s hesistant Wijnaldum approach revealed

FC Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman must trim his first-team ranks in order to make space for the possible incoming of Liverpool FC midfield general Gini Wijnaldum this summer.

The Reds first-team regular looks highly likely to sign for the Catalan giants who have pursued him with much interest for more than a year amid his deal with the Anfield outfit expiring at the end of the 2020-21 season.

However, despite recent talk of Wijnaldum being close to call it quits in the Liverpool FC colours, the Holland international is yet to confirm any major development in his case.

According to reports from Sport, this is because Koeman must offload the out-of-favour Miralem Pjanić in the summer transfer window so that Wijnaldum’s imminent incoming can go through.

Pjanić has been deemed a flop signing by many since he landed at Camp Nou last summer in a deal that also involved Arthur Melo join Serie A giants Juventus.

The Bosnian midfielder has been a shadow of his former Juventus self while turning out for Koeman’s outfit and would most certainly be shipped out this summer with Wijnaldum believed to be high on the gaffer’s wishlist.
