Liverpool FC have no interest in signing former Red Philippe Coutinho three years after he left the Merseyside club to join Spanish giants FC Barcelona.
Coutinho’s agent Kia Joorabchian has dropped hints in recent weeks regarding his clients wish to return to the Premier League, which caused considerable speculation regarding which team would the flamboyant Brazilian attacker join. A host of top Premier League clubs such as Arsenal and Chelsea have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign Coutinho, whose career has dropped off since he left The Reds to join Barcelona.
A season-long loan at Bayern this current campaign has done little to justify the German club to sign the player. And it has been confirmed that the Bundesliga champions won’t be activating the clause in Coutinho’s existing loan deal to sign him this summer permanently.
Thus, the player would be returning to Barcelona at the end of the current season, where he has fallen out of favour in the team with very few impressive performances since joining them in January 2017. Moreover, the signing of Antoine Griezmann by the Spanish side has led to rumours that the club will be looking to offload Coutinho this summer.
The Reds will be looking to steer clear from signing their former player, with the 27-year old Coutinho struggling to find his form for the past two seasons. Moreover, Liverpool FC have an abundance of depth in their midfield and won’t be looking to spend big this summer.
The player left the Reds at the peak of his career and was widely tipped to replicate his majestic performances while playing for Liverpool FC at Barcelona. However, such an event did not become a reality as the Brazilian has struggled to cement his place in the Barcelona lineup and suffering injuries at the same time.
Despite Coutinho’s agent Joorabchian voicing his client desire of playing for a Premier League team next season, and a number of suitors vying for Coutinho’s signature, it seems very likely that Jurgen Klopp will be unfazed by such scenario and won’t budge on signing his ex-player.
