Thiago Alcantara urged to step up for Spain at the Euros by former teammate Cesc Fabregas

Ex-Arsenal midfield star Cesc Fabregas believes Thiago Alcantara should gear up his play and show the world his talents on the big stage while he is at the European Championships with an under-fire Spain side.

The Liverpool man has not featured much for Luis Enrique’s men who are in danger of crashing out of the tournament should they not emerge victors on their upcoming opponents in Slovakia.

Thiago signed for Jurgen Klopp’s side last summer and despite enduring an uninspiring debut campaign, the former Bayern Munich man had ensured a strong finish to his season at Anfield which made him a hot favourite to perform well for Spain at the Euros.

Thiago, however, has featured sparsely for the 2008 and 2012 European Champions this time around with the Liverpool man getting 24 minutes on the pitch in the opener against Sweden following which he was left on the bench in the Poland clash.

Reports from The Mirror claim that Fabregas, who has lavished praise upon Thiago’s ability on the pitch, had called upon his old teammate to step up his game and exceed expectations when turning out in a big event.

“Thiago, without any doubt, he has got fantastic qualities. He started very young at Barcelona, I played with him for a year.”

“I think it’s time for Thiago to basically do something big in a big tournament. He has been now at the Euros, he has been at the World Cup, he never really played too much.

“So I think he needs to find a consistency to show the whole world that he really has top top level to show it at the biggest stage.”
