The duo of Thiago Alcantara and Sadio Mane, both of whom tested positive for COVID-19 in subsequent weeks, have marked a return to first-team training ahead of the Reds’ visit to Goodison Park on Saturday for the season’s first Merseyside Derby, reports the Mirror.
Both players had been forced to self-isolate for a period of upto ten days following their test reports for the virus turning out to be positive and had missed Liverpool FC’s 7-2 humiliation at Villa Park, as a result. The Reds had on that occasion sorely missed the presence of the duo in a shockingly horrendous performance against Dean Smith’s men.
Thiago is yet to feature in what would be just his second appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s side since he made the move to Anfield from Bayern Munich. The Spaniard made his debut for Liverpool FC in the 2-0 victory over Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, however, failed to feature in any further games for the Reds upon his COVID-19 diagnosis.
Thiago and Mane had been forced to withdraw from their international commitments with Spain and Senegal respectively for the ongoing international break as they worked their way to a full recovery, with the former having been snapped walking through the streets of Liverpool just days before.
