Timo Werner Needs To Decide His Future Amid Interest From Liverpool

Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig has warned their star forward Timo Werner to make a decision on his future basically handing the young striker a transfer ultimatum.

Liverpool will be on red alert considering the situation revolving around Timo Werner as the Reds have been linked with a move to swoop in for the forward and try to lure him to Anfield this summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s led Liverpool to their best-ever season in the Premier League ever since the club was formed back in 1892 but still did not manage to win the Premiership as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City beat them by just one single point. But the German boss is keen on ending Liverpool’s 30-year wait for a Premier League title by dethroning City and cutting short Guardiola’s dominance in England’s top flight.

In order to achieve that, Klopp wants to add more firepower to his attacking department and the 52-year-old manager is looking at a prolific goalscorer that can find the net on a regular basis. Red Bull Leipzig’s Timo Werner fits the bill and the 23-year-old scored 19 goals and notched up seven assists for the German club last season which attracted interest from several top European suitors.

Leipzig is aware that their marksman is a rare talent in front of goal and they want to tie him down at the Red Bull Arena by offering him a contract extension. Werner has just 11 months remaining on his current deal with Leipzig but has been avoiding a contract extension because a few top clubs are monitoring his situation.

However, Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has explained that Werner has to make a decision soon or the club will be forced to offload him before the new season begins on August 18th, “We do not want to set an ultimatum, but eventually we need a decision. It is desirable that we have a solution before the league starts. We can and want to meet this timing. We are in constructive and good talks, which will lead to a result. We have submitted a contract offer to Timo and his consultant, we stand by that and we do not have to improve it. It is legitimate for a young international to think about his future. But it is also legitimate that the club wants to extend this quality to players. Or that we just want to sell it.”
