Tottenham Keeper Hugo Lloris Wants Liverpool To be awarded the Title

Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper Hugo Lloris believes that it would be “cruel” if Liverpool were denied the Premier League title due to the coronavirus outbreak that has suspended the English top flight.

Jurgen Klopp’s unit was a staggering 25 points clear at the summit of the table when the season was suspended early in March due to COVID-19 plague that spread across Europe.

It still remains to be seen when, and if, the Premier League campaign will restart, with recent reports suggesting that the season could resume midway in June.

Hugo Lloris was involved in a rather sporadic season with Tottenham as the North London side were eighth on the table before the halt of football. However, the World Cup-winning Frenchman wants the season finished and said it could be particularly harsh on Liverpool if they were not awarded the title.

While speaking to L’Equipe, the 33-year-old goalkeeper explained that everyone wants the season to finish but the decision to cancel the campaign would be extremely terrible for Liverpool, who have waited 30 years for a top division title. “We are in a situation where everyone wants to finish and have the decision on the field. It would be terrible if everything ended like that nine [matches] before the end of the Premier League. It would also be cruel for Liverpool with the lead they have … they are almost champions. As with everyone, there would be a taste of unfinished business. In addition, we are entering the most exciting period, the most beautiful moment of the season.”

Liverpool lost only one game this entire season against Watford at Vicarage Road and won 27 out of their 29 Premier League fixtures, defeating every single opponent in the process. The defending European champions were knocked out of Europe by LaLiga side Atletico Madrid earlier in March. If the Premier League season is to resume in the near future, games are likely to be held behind closed doors.
