Transfer Update On Jeremie Frimpong’s Move To Liverpool

Bayer Leverkusen sensation Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly hoping for a summer transfer move to Liverpool.

But there is a release clause of £34m in his contract which is due to run out soon.

The Dutch international, who finished Euro 2024 in the semi-finals, had a fine campaign in Bundesliga.

He made sure that Leverkusen would win the domestic double under former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Alonso predominantly played Frimpong as a right wing-back, but he showed his versatility to play higher up by playing in positions further upfield, too.

The 23-year-old scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists in 47 appearances throughout the 2023/24 campaign, making a lot of top clubs in Europe interested in him.

Born in Amsterdam, Frimpong spent much of his youth in the Manchester City academy before moving on to Celtic in 2019, and then Bayer Leverkusen. He has spoken many times about how a move to Anfield “would be great.”

Now, reports from Bild, via Sport Witness, claim that Frimpong dreams of a move to Liverpool in the summer window.

Although he also stays open to any possible moves for him to Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Arsenal, Liverpool has been the latest club to enquire about his transfer.

While Frimpong’s current contract includes a £34 million release clause, it only applies up to the week after the Euro 2024 final, and this means Liverpool would have to act fast if they are going to sign him for such a price.

Bayer Leverkusen will then inflate Frimpong’s asking price once the clause expires.

Even though Frimpong is such a versatile player with great stats, the make-up of Liverpool’s current team does not allow for a chase on him.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley already playing in the right-back position, the Reds really are not in dire need of another attacking full-back.

What Liverpool needs to do in the coming weeks is work on strengthening its central defense rather than adding to its right flank at the back.

In other words, while Jeremie Frimpong has dreams of playing for Liverpool and has a release clause worth £34 million that will soon expire, the structure of the present Liverpool squad and their intended transfer targets in the near future mean this move is unlikely to occur.

That being the case, with the clause expiring shortly, any interested club would have to act fast if it wanted to secure his services at that current price.
