It’s still hard to believe that Liverpool find themselves 22 – TWENTY TWO – points clear at the top of the table, with only 13 league games remaining. Jurgen Klopp and his troops have left the excitement on Merseyside for a short time in exchange for some winter sunshine in the Middle East. However, attentions are already turning to the Reds’ next cluster of EPL fixtures, which looks kind to them and could be even kinder to fantasy football teams up and down the country.
Fantasy sports has long been a concept that’s gripped sports fans on both sides of the Atlantic. In the UK, we’ve had fantasy football throughout the longevity of the EPL. In the States, they’ve had platforms like DraftKings that offer fantasy sports contests on a host of different sports. Thanks to Liverpool’s American owners, interest in the Reds’ EPL success story has captured the imagination of fantasy football managers across the Atlantic too.
If we take a look at the Reds’ next three domestic games on the horizon, it’s easy to see why pundits are already recommending that fantasy football managers load up on Liverpool stars for the remainder of the month. Liverpool start their season run-in with a trip to Norfolk, to face bottom club Norwich City, who are seven points adrift of safety. Liverpool destroyed the Canaries at Anfield on the opening night of the season, exploiting their naïve defending to the maximum. That’s followed by clashes with fellow relegation strugglers, West Ham and Watford.
With that in mind, here are three Liverpool players that should be at the front and centre of your fantasy football teams this month:
Joe Gomez
You might be surprised to find that Gomez has attracted very little interest in most fantasy football leagues this season. When you consider that he’s much cheaper than central defensive partner, Virgil Van Dijk, it’s a no-brainer to try and slot him into your team for the games against Norwich, West Ham and Watford. The Reds have conceded just one goal in two months.
Bobby Firmino
Again, at this stage of the fantasy football season, managers need to start thinking outside the box. Firmino is often well-suited to away games when the Reds catch teams cold on the counter-attack. With three of the Reds’ next four league games away from Anfield, the Brazilian could come into his own in February, particularly as all of his league goals have been scored outside Merseyside in 2019/20.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
If you haven’t got Alexander-Arnold in your defence already, what rock have you been living under?! The 21-year-old has a staggering ten assists to his name in just 25 league appearances this term. This is a player that can get you points for clean sheets and earn you regular points for assists and the odd goal too – winner winner, chicken dinner.
