[Video] Andy Robertson reveals his four favorite left-backs in world football

Liverpool FC’s stalwart full-back Andy Robertson has heaped praise on his fellow defenders in world football in a recent interview. Robertson has emerged as one of the best wing-backs in the modern game these past few seasons, however, the 26-year old was quite generous in his appreciation for others as well.

The Scottish international labelled Bayern Munich rising star Alphonso Davies as a ‘world-class’ talent, adding that the teenager could only get better in the long run. The 19-year old Davies has shone for the German giants this season with his spectacular run of form on the left side of the defence.

“I think Alphonso Davies is already world class but he can only get better.”

Robertson was also vocal in his praise for English international Ben Chilwell who enjoyed a great 2019-20 season with Leicester City. The left-back’s recent displays on the pitch have made him a target for Chelsea this summer.

FC Barcelona’s Jordi Alba’s rich experience of playing at the highest level for such a long time is what makes the Spaniard a fantastic full-back. Robertson had gone head to head with Alba in Liverpool FC’s memorable 4-3 aggregate win over FC Barcelona last year in the Champions League.

“Ben Chilwell I love watching in the Premier League, then I would say Jordi Alba, the more experienced one of the three I would say. You know, maybe coming the end of his career but what a career he’s had.

Rounding up the 26-year old’s list of his admired left-backs in the game was Real Madrid ace Marcelo. The Brazilian has been a major presence for Los Blancos’s backline for over a decade now and has brought an attacking side to the full-backs style of play in modern times.

“You know, he really –him [ Jordi Alba] and Marcelo – probably took left-backs to a whole new level.”
