Vincent Kompany, now in charge of Bayern Munich, is reportedly aiming to sign Liverpool defender Joe Gomez as part of his plans to strengthen the squad.
Kompany wants to sign a defensive player who would find the versatility on the field and Gomez has it.
Gomez, 27, was a constant option in the Liverpool team throughout the season.
His versatility to play either in the center-back or either of the fullback positions has been on show recently. He even featured as a holding midfielder in the recent past.
His consistent performances have earned himself a recall to the England team by Gareth Southgate. Currently, Gomez is with the team in Germany, preparing for an opening game against Serbia.
Liverpool, for their part, are not keen on letting go of one of their star players, at all.
The Reds have told Bayern in no condition they will let Gomez depart, who is seen as one of the lynchpins of this new-look side under Arne Slot. The striker penned a new five-year contract in 2022 that tied him down at Anfield until 2027.

Along with Gomez, Bayern is hot on the heels of the Chelsea and England defender Levi Colwill.
The central defender, one of the most sought-after in England, surprisingly failed to make an impression that could take him to Euro 2024, but he has now been told he will receive big chances at Chelsea sooner rather than later.
Still, the pursuit of defensive talent by Bayern does not stop here, as the club is also looking at Germany’s defender, Jonathan Tah, who plays for Bayer Leverkusen, in a recruitment drive.
In more outgoing news, Liverpool has sent Calvin Ramsay on loan to Wigan for the year.
The 20-year-old right-back, who was brought in from Aberdeen for £6.5 million as a potential understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold, really has struggled for game time at Liverpool.
After loan spells at Preston and Bolton last season, Ramsay is eager to make an impact at Wigan and prove his doubters wrong.
In a nutshell, Vincent Kompany is chasing Joe Gomez as part of Bayern Munich’s defensive revolution; on the other hand, Liverpool are keen not to lose their multi-functional defender, given other transfer interests and new squad developments from the team.
