Virgil Van Dijk Expects New Challenge From Chelsea

Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk has admitted that Chelsea still poses a big threat even after Belgian star Eden Hazard left the club to join Real Madrid in the summer.

Following the Champions League success by Liverpool this summer, Jurgen Klopp’s men will now make the trip to Istanbul to face Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup. The Blues managed to win the Europa League after hammering Arsenal 4-1 in the final and book their spot for the UEFA Super Cup.

But Chelsea lost one of their key players in Eden Hazard this summer as the 28-year-old made the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu. Hazard was a player that would trouble Liverpool and many other top teams when he was on the pitch as the Belgian winger scored six times in 16 meetings with Liverpool.

The Red half of Merseyside will be glad that there will be no Eden Hazard on Wednesday night for Chelsea but Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk is expecting a new challenge from Frank Lampard’s side.

While speaking to reporters in the pre-match press conference, the Dutch center-back showered praise on Hazard but also stated that Liverpool cannot be complacent of this Chelsea team, “He is a quality player and he was important to them but I think they [have] plenty of quality players. I think they play a little bit different than they did last year. We will analyze them over the next couple of days and then we will be prepared. Nothing that happened last season will have any impact on what is going to happen. It is the next game. It is going to be a new game. They have a new situation at the club there but we want to do better than we did last year and we will see”
