Star defender Virgil van Dijk has agreed on extended terms at Anfield with the Liverpool man signing a new long-term contract with Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Reports from the club’s official website confirm that the 30-year-old Holland international has penned a new deal with Liverpool ahead of the opening day fixture at Carrow Road for the Merseyside giants.
Van Dijk had been heavily backed to be next in the line to sign a new long-term contract on Merseyside after his teammates Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson Becker had done so in recent weeks.
Jurgen Klopp is believed to have prioritised a contract extension for his defensive colossus in the aftermath of Van Dijk’s season-ending injury last campaign which ruled out the central defender from on-field action since the derby clash at Goodison Park in October 2020.
It remains to be seen whether the former Southampton man will be in the fray for making the Liverpool teamsheet in the weekend fixture against Norwich City as a major decision over Van Dijk’s fitness lies with the boss Jurgen Klopp.
