Virgil van Dijk warns rivals over ‘getting better’ for the future

The coronavirus outbreak in the UK has forced the suspension of the Premier League since early March but Liverpool superstar Virgil Van Dijk has threatened rivals that the Reds aim to come back stronger upon the resumption of football.

Ever since arriving at Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018 for a then world-record transfer fee of £75 million, the 28-year-old Van Dijk has been an absolute colossus at the heart of the Reds’ defence.

The commanding Dutch central defender has become a talismanic figure in a star-studded squad that has tasted success in the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup last year.

For most fans around the globe, the signing of Van Dijk appeared to be the final piece in the puzzle for Liverpool as the stitched up their leaky defence and ended their long wait for major silverware.

In fact, Van Dijk’s impressive displays have been so dominant and authoritative that he was awarded as the UEFA Player of the Year in 2019 and finished as a runner up in the race for the Ballon d’Or, falling short only to the iconic Lionel Messi.

However, in conversation with BT Sport, Van Dijk has admitted that there is a lot more to come in the future stating there is more room for improvement with the help of his teammates and manager Jurgen Klopp. He said, “There is always room for improvement; I know it and I just try to keep looking for it and keep working on it. With the help of all my team-mates and obviously the manager, that will definitely help me get better even now. So, I just keep doing that.”
