Watford lead the race to sign Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips

Watford are understood to be the leaders in the race to sign Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips before the transfer window slams shut on January 31.

The Premier League’s new boys are on the hunt for defensive reinforcements in the market with safety from the drop zone far from guaranteed heading towards the business end of the campaign.

According to reports from The Liverpool Echo ( via The Sun), it is claimed that Liverpool’s first-team outcast Nat Phillips is a top name on the shopping list at Vicarage Road where the gaffer Claudio Ranieri is looking to add depth to his backline.

Phillips has made just three appearances so far this season for Jurgen Klopp’s Merseysiders and is heavily linked with a move away from Anfield despite Liverpool turning down two bids coming their way since the turn of the year.

Klopp is unlikely to stand in the defender’s path should the latter choose to call it quits at the club but the Liverpool manager could be in line to issue a recall for loanee Rhys Williams from Championship outfit Swansea City.
