We Could Have Played Better

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admitted that his team was short of their best following their 2-0 victory against West Ham, producing what he described as a quite “normal performance” at the London Stadium.

The Reds earned all three points as Egyptian king Mohamed Salah scored a first-half penalty before setting up English midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for his second Premier League goal of the season after the half time whistle.

Argentine forward Manuel Lanzini missed some clear chances for the home side in either half amid some sloppy Liverpool defending however Klopp opted not to criticize his players and insisted the result was all that mattered although the team could have done better.

While speaking to reporters the 52-year-old German explained that there is still some scope for improvement but the away team was the one team that deserved to win the game, “We could have done a lot of things better but there was only one team who deserved to win, we could have passed better, defended better. Who cares? These players played outstanding football so often, it was a normal performance.

He further added that West Ham was a very defensive team, “We never had 100 percent rhythm, it is tough to play against such a defensive-orientated team.

Liverpool is now 19 points ahead of Manchester City on second place on the Premier League table and is pretty much walking alone to their path to winning their 1st league title in 30 years.
