Werner Opens Up On Liverpool Transfer Links

Red Bull Leipzig star forward Timo Werner has stated that he was “very proud” to be linked with a move to Premier League club Liverpool, labeling the European champions as the world’s best team.

The 23-year-old Werner has been linked with other top European clubs as well but also with the Merseyside giants after scoring 26 goals in 32 games for Bundesliga side Leipzig this term.

Germany forward scored a second-half penalty which helped Leipzig to a 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 game on Wednesday to continue his excellent goalscoring form.

Speaking after the game at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, Werner discussed the reports that have been linking him with a move to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and the forward did little to play down a possible switch to Anfield in the summer transfer window.

Werner said that the runaway Premier League leaders are the best team in the world at the moment and is extremely proud with the links but also admitted that he needs to improve on his own game, “Liverpool is the best team in the world at the moment and when you’re linked with that team it makes me very proud but in case of that it’s a pleasure. But I know that in Liverpool play a lot of good players and I have to improve myself to learn many more things to get on this level to play there.”

Werner scored a 58th-minute spot-kick against Spurs in London and has Leipzig on track to reach the Champions League quarter-finals if they prevail at the Red Bull Arena in three weeks time.
