West Brom boss Sam Allardyce showers praise on current Liverpool squad

Sunday’s visiting boss at Anfield, Sam Allardyce, who is now in charge of basement side West Brom, remains the last manager of any away side to leave Anfield with three points in league football dating all the way back to his tenure at Crystal Palace in April 2017.

As Jurgen Klopp’s table-toppers get ready to play hosts to The Baggies over the weekend, Allardyce reckons last season’s champions could very well go down in English top-flight history as one of the best teams should they clinch more trophies in the coming years.

The Merseysiders have been phenomenal in their displays across the country as well as in Europe over the last couple of years, and on the back of their record-breaking title-win in the 2019-20 campaign, Klopp’s men could pose a challenge to Manchester United’s treble-winning side of 1998-99, according to Allardyce.

“What is remarkable is just how well they are playing, even with their injury list,” said the recently appointed West Brom gaffer.

“I don’t think Jurgen has ever experienced that before. The amount and quality of player he has got on the sidelines is significant and the youngsters who have stepped in have been magnificent.

“Certainly, this Liverpool side ranks as high as you can get at the moment. Whether they are as good as the Manchester United Treble team, some people will say: ‘Yes’.

“I suppose what this side has to do is win trophies over the next couple of years. Then you will be able to draw a more rounded conclusion.”

As Manchester United and Leicester City dropped points in a 2-2 draw on Saturday, Klopp’s men would be looking to devour the chance to go five points clear of second-placed arch-rivals Everton with a solid showing against Allardyce’s West Brom at Anfield.
