Wijnaldum admits staying injury-free is a priority amid a congested fixture list for the Reds

As Liverpool FC gear up for the festive period in the month of December, one which usually brings a very intense fixture scheduling for teams competing both in England as well as in Europe, Jurgen Klopp has lost a number of first-team regulars to long-term injury troubles.

The Reds boss has been hugely critical of the scheduling of games for his side, with the Merseysiders having to turn out in the Champions League in mid-week, followed by an early kick-off on Saturday in domestic football.

Klopp had attributed such scheduling to the rising number of injuries to Liverpool FC stars, the recent of whom is the club’s first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Gini Wijnaldum, a player who has clocked one of the highest numbers of minutes in the Reds shirt this season, admitted that it was tough for the players to stay clear of injury issues amid the gruesome fixture list, with the Dutchman adding that there was barely any time for rest in between the two games of the week.

‘I don’t really have anything to complain about. I am blessed to stay fit during this period,’ said the 29-year-old, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

‘I hope I can hold on until the end of the season. That’s going to be very difficult, but I’m confident.

‘It’s really just playing matches and resting at the moment. There’s not really any training because there’s not a lot of time for that.’

Klopp’s men, following their 1-0 win over Ajax on Tuesday night, play hosts to Wolves in Sunday’s meeting in the Premier League as the Reds hope to maintain a strong lead at the top of the table.
