Wijnaldum To The Rescue As Liverpool Maintain Flawless Start

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool continued their winning start in the Premier League after the 1-0 win against Sheffield United on Saturday at the Bramall Lane.

Georginio Wijnaldum scored the only goal of the game with the help of a calamitous error from Sheffield United goalkeeper Dean Henderson.  Liverpool was far from their scintillating best against Sheffield as the home side matched the European champions in almost every department frustrating Klopp’s outfit for most of the game.

Liverpool’s first clear chance came from a long ball over the top from Virgil van Dijk, but Sadio Mane’s finish was haywire and the Senegalese should have scored with another attempt from close range but ended up hitting the post instead.

After the break, United had the chance to get the advantage, but some outstanding defending from Andrew Robertson denied the newly-promoted side. The game grew even more frustrating for Liverpool as the front three weren’t able to neither get into the game nor get the desired service by the midfielders.

Jordan Henderson was subbed off the pitch for Divock Origi and the Belgian added a bit of a change in the Liverpool system. It was the formation change that got Liverpool the luck they needed as Wijnaldum’s volley which should have comfortably been held by Henderson snuck in beneath his grasp and crossed the line.

It could be one of the most defining moments in the season for Liverpool if they look back at this game which might win them the league title.

The Merseyside giants keep up their chase for the title against Manchester City and keep up the five-point lead at the top of the table after winning their seventh game in a succession.
