Liverpool legend Bruce Grobbelaar hailed Alisson Becker as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and urged the Brazilian to remain at Anfield for a number of seasons to establish himself as a club great.
In the summer of 2018, Liverpool splashed a record-breaking £65 million ($81m) in order to lure Alisson away from AS Roma to Anfield but that has proved to be money well spent. The Brazilian filled in a rather problematic position at the club and has been pivotal for Liverpool’s success over the past two seasons. In his debut campaign with the Premier League giants, Alisson Becker won the Champions League title and although a second-place finish in the Premier League earned much heartbreak for the Liverpool faithful, the goalkeeper was awarded the Golden Glove for recording the most number of clean sheets in the season.
Once an iconic goalkeeper with Liverpool in his heyday, Bruce Grobbelaar won the Premier League on six occasions and the 62-year-old has advised Alisson Becker to remain at the Merseyside club to make a strong name for himself. The former South African international revealed he feels Alisson Becker is the best goalkeeper in the world, “He has an unbelievable record with his angles. He is the best for that. For me, I look at goalkeepers all the time and I can pick out where the faults are, but he is a fantastic No.1. He is just all-around the best goalkeeper in the world”
Grobbelaar also explained that Allison is still relatively young at 27 years of age and can win many more titles over the seasons with Liverpool as he can leave his mark on the Premier League side. “I certainly hope he knows how well he is thought of and how revered he is at this club. Liverpool is a family, it is not a club, you don’t come in and out of this club without it leaving a mark. This is a place that will win you trophies and he can be here for years and break all the records that keepers have made here. I hope he stays here for a long, long time. And certainly, with the manager that we have got, he will try and keep that family together.”
Liverpool are currently 25 points clear of 2nd placed Manchester City on the Premier League table and Alisson has been imperative in producing key saves to propel the Reds to such an advantage. Once the season resumes, it is a near guarantee that the Premier League title will be heading toward the red side of Merseyside ending a 30-year long wait for top-flight success.
