Xherdan Shaqiri lifts the lid on his situation at Liverpool this summer in a recent interview

A recent interview posted by the Swiss FA on its Twitter page sees Xherdan Shaqiri reiterate his desire to stay at Anfield beyond the recently closed summer transfer window despite interest in the attacker from other clubs.

The 28-year old winger had been widely expected to leave the Premier League champions for elsewhere this summer after finding himself on the fringes of the first-team squad at Liverpool FC over the past season.

However, Monday’s deadline day of the transfer window saw Shaqiri’s stay at the Merseyside club extended as the Swiss international continues to fight for his place in Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the Reds over the course of the 2020-21 season.

In the interview which was taken before the player tested positive for COVID-19, becoming the third Liverpool FC star to be diagnosed with the pandemic virus, Shaqiri is seen addressing the rumours that surrounded his future at Anfield all throughout the summer.

“The media write a lot, but in the end I’m with Liverpool,” said the ex-Bayern Munich and Stoke City player.

“I have a long-term contract, and I really feel good. I have decided to stay with Liverpool. In football, there is always speculation.

“I think the national team comes at a good time to be able to play again and then attack again when I go back to Liverpool.”

Shaqiri’s role in Klopp’s senior squad has been reduced to a bit-part player, however, the attacker did show glimpses of his talent when he took the pitch in Liverpool FC’s 7-2 win over Lincoln City in the EFL Cup over a fortnight ago.
