Virgil van Dijk aimed shots at the recent media criticism of Mohammad Salah’s run of form over the last few weeks in the aftermath of Liverpool FC’s 4-3 win against Leeds United in which the Egyptian winger scored a hat-trick.
The Reds’ centre-back who scored his side’s second goal of the afternoon, heading past Leeds goalie Meslier from an Andy Roberton corner delivery, voiced his admiration for Salah’s sheer attacking ability during the course of the game.
“Well, that’s the media,” the 29-year old responded to questions about Salah’s performence. “You doubt him, we appreciate him. That is clear and that is the most important thing for him. We do not recognise the negativity of the media.”
Salah’s display in the game played at Anfield was undoubtedly a major factor behind Jurgen Klopp’s side securing all three points up for grabs in their opening fixture of the 2020-21 Premier League season.
With his three goals against the Whites on Saturday, the 28-year old star-forward became the first Liverpool FC player to score a hat-trick on opening day of the Premier League season since Reds icon John Aldridge achieved a similar feat in the 1988-89 season of English top-flight football.
