5 James Milner replacements Liverpool can look to buy in the summer

James Milner, Liverpool’s ever-present Mr Reliable, could be set for his final few months on Merseyside turning out for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

The 36-year-old English midfielder is rumoured to be in line to call it quits at Anfield come the end of the season with no extension understood to be on the table for Milner to put pen to paper on.

Jurgen Klopp’s recent remarks surrounding the speculation over Milner’s future in the Liverpool shirt did hint that the Liverpool boss was mulling over scouting alternate options in the transfer market to shore up his midfield ranks should Milner leave.

Here are 5 midfield maestros we believe could be the perfect signing for the Reds –

1. Youri Tielemans

Tielemans is touted to be one of the most in-demand players for Europe’s heavyweight clubs with the Belgian midfielder keen to leave Leicester City for greener pastures.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Foxes star with Klopp keeping close tabs ahead of launching a formal bid for his signature.

2. Aurélien Tchouaméni

The 22-year-old Frenchman has been an influential performer for AS Monaco with his stellar displays in the heart of the midfield earning him rave reviews and maybe even a ticket to the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp’s Merseysiders will face stiff competition to land Tchouaméni, however, with Chelsea and Manchester United also in the mix.

3. Paul Pogba

Another of the Premier League’s top midfield names in Paul Pogba has his future beyond the summer subject to much talk with the player not expected to renew terms at Old Trafford.

Pogba is being watched closely by the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain but Liverpool could be interested in making a swoop for the World Cup-winning maestro to provide Klopp with quality talent.

4. Gavi

Prizing away FC Barcelona’s highly-rated starlet would not be an easy task for the Liverpool camp but Gavi’s showings of late coupled with the uncertainty that surrounds his Camp Nou future makes him a top name on the shopping list at Anfield.

The teenager has grown into a top performer under the new Barca boss Xavi who is expected to push for the youngster to pen a new long-term deal and rebuff interest from elsewhere.

5. Douglas Luiz

The Aston Villa first-team regular has been an influential presence on the team sheet under Steven Gerrard’s charge and Liverpool could look to the Brazil international to shore up their midfield options heading into the new campaign.

Luiz operates in the No.6 role for Villa and can prove himself to be a viable deputy to his compatriot Fabinho with Klopp eager to tinker around with his XI across competitions.
