Harry Redknapp says Liverpool should have attempted to sign Sergio Romero

Former Tottenham Hotspurs boss Harry Redknapp has expressed concern over Liverpool FC not making a last-minute move for Sergio Romero on deadline day.

The Manchester United goalkeeper and an Argentina international was a target for a number of clubs across England, most notably the Reds’ city-rivals Everton, however, ended up moving nowhere out of Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, at Liverpool FC, the Merseyside giants could be set to face a major injury crisis as Alisson Becker sustained a major shoulder blow in training and missed the extraordinary 7-2 loss to Aston Villa, a game in which the Brazilian’s replacement Adrian endured a horrible showing between the sticks.

With Alisson reportedly sidelined for upto six weeks, Redknapp, while speaking to Sky Sports, said that Jurgen Klopp’s side should have made a move for Romero in order to ensure a good backup option in the absence of the 28-year old Alisson.

‘Liverpool need a goalkeeper. They need a goalkeeper more than Everton (who were also linked with the Manchester United goalkeeper).

‘If Alisson is out for a while, it could be vital for Liverpool. They’re going to need to make sure they have good back-up because it sounds like he could be out for a long time.’
