Former Liverpool and England striker Michael Owen hailed Diogo Jota’s immediate impact since making the move to Anfield this summer, with Owen even suggesting that the ex-Wolves star forward was surely the best signing of this summer’s transfer window.
Following his big-money transfer to the Merseysiders, Jota has been an impactful presence in the Liverpool FC XI, especially over the last few weeks. The 23-year-old has not wasted any time in getting used to the high expectations surrounding new signing at Anfield despite his move to the club coming as a surprise to many.
With as many as nine goals in 15 appearances in the Liverpool FC colours, Jota has staked his claim for a regular starting spot in the Reds lineup, putting the under-fire Roberto Firmino at an even greater risk of dropping out of the XI.
Owen, as quoted by the Daily Mail, revealed his own shock at seeing the brilliant run of form displayed by the new Liverpool FC man since his move to the Champions of England, with the ex-Reds fan-favourite saying that Jota’s success made him the best signing of the summer.
“No one could’ve predicted that he would hit the ground running like he has,”
“You’d have to say he’s the best signing of the season so far in the Premier League.
“He’s surprised me with his pace, I must admit. I think he’s far quicker than I gave him credit for. Against Atalanta he was electric.
“He just shows composure, a lot of people panic, they just get a shot off as soon as they get any form of space.
“I just think he’s scored headers, right foot, left foot, he’s scored everything so far and he’s looked the real deal in terms of linking play.
“Nobody could have envisaged the quality that he’s shown so far.”
Despite not being the Reds’ primary target to reinforce their attacking options, Jota has made his name well known to the Merseyside folk with him finding the back of the net ever so often recently.
