Liverpool’s fringe first-team player Harry Wilson has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Portuguese giants Benfica this summer, claim reports from Football Insider.
The Welshman is backed to call it quits at Anfield ahead of the start of the next season with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp unlikely to hand him regular minutes on the pitch.
Liverpool keen on Wilson’s sale to fund their summer business
The Merseysiders are believed to be on the hunt for a sizable transfer fee coming their way for Wilson heading in the opposite direction with Klopp having a smaller kitty to work around in this summer window.
Wilson’s sale is expected to raise an amount in the region of £15 million which will help Klopp finance the signature of the names on his shopping list which includes the likes of Brighton’s Yves Bissouma and Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn.
Wilson’s deal with Liverpool runs for just two more summers
Having put pen to paper on an extended contract at Anfield, the 24-year-old Wales international has just two years remaining on his current deal with Liverpool.
This could convince the Reds to part ways with the player this time around amid fears that they will be in line to lose him for much cheaper should they postpone his sale to the summer of 2022.
