Jurgen Klopp finds a new target in Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn

Liverpool have a strong interest in signing Aston Villa first-team star John McGinn who has caught Jurgen Klopp’s eye with the German keen to bring a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum at Anfield this summer.

Wijnaldum’s departure for Paris Saint-Germain upon the expiry of his Liverpool deal means that the Merseysiders are now one important man short in the midfield department.

Villa’s McGinn is rumoured to be one of the names being eyed up by Klopp for a summer swoop and reports from The Athletic claim that the Liverpool gaffer had taken a liking to the Scotland international last season when Dean Smith’s men enjoyed a thumping 7-2 win over a toothless Reds side in the Premier League.

It is understood that Jurgen Klopp’s side have significant interest in the player but are yet to reach out to Aston Villa with a formal offer as the Villians seek a £45 million opening bid to ponder over sanctioning the sale of their star midfield man.

McGinn’s good relationship with his compatriot and Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson could turn out to be a pivotal factor behind Liverpool’s chase of the 26-year-old who arrived at Villa Park in the summer of 2018 for a £2.75 million fee.
