Leicester City are in line to offer a new deal to their midfield maestro Youri Tielemans with interest from Liverpool in the Belgium international dimming in recent times.
The FA Cup-winning hero for The Foxes last season was considered to be a top target for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp who has had to scout the transfer market for a new midfield player in light of Gini Wijnaldum’s exit from Anfield.
Tielemans along with fellow Premier League midfielder Yves Bissouma were backed to be high up the priority list for Klopp ahead of the next season to fill the void left by the long-serving Wijnaldum while playing for the Merseysiders in the centre of the park for five seasons.
Reports from The Telegraph, however, suggest that Leicester City’s insistence on being paid a mega-money offer convinced Liverpool to pull the plug on any prospective deal for the Belgian player who is set to be offered a new long-term contract at the King Power Stadium heading into the start of the 2021-22 campaign.
Jurgen Klopp is understood to be an admirer of the midfielder’s talents on the pitch but his high price-tag has put the Liverpool boss off on making a concrete approach to bring him to Anfield and bolster his first-team ranks.
