Liverpool backed to make a move for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips

Ex-Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor believes Liverpool are in the mix to make a move for Leeds United’s highly-rated midfield man Kalvin Phillips despite the player’s high price-tag in the market.

Phillips was one of the best performers at Elland Road last season and he carried that same run of form heading into the UEFA European Championships with Gareth Southgate’s England who finished the runner-ups in the mega event.

The Leeds United man was a regular on the England teamsheet alongside West Ham United’s Declan Rice with the duo displaying a great run of showings from the centre of the park over the course of the month-long tournament.

Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor has backed Jurgen Klopp and Co. to eye up Phillips in what is sure to be a big-money deal amid speculation that Liverpool remain interested in bringing in a fresh face for their midfield department this summer.

Gini Wijnaldum’s departure from Anfield for Paris Saint-Germain has left Klopp searching for a suitable replacement and Agbonlahor reckons the 25-year-old Phillips will be one of the names on the shopping list for the Liverpool manager.

“It’s not just Liverpool, I think he’ll be on everybody’s radar.”

“He’s an outstanding player and was one of England’s stand-out performers at the Euros. Every team in the Premier League and teams in Europe will be looking at him and will definitely try to sign him.

“It’s going to be a bit of a headache for Leeds to try and keep hold of him because he’s been outstanding.

“I’m sure Liverpool are definitely looking at him. But the price tag will be high to get him out of there.”
