Liverpool and FC Barcelona are in a close contest for the signature of the highly-rated midfield talent Renato Sanches, according to Fabrizio Romano on his Here We Go Podcast.
The 23-year-old Lille man Sanches had been tipped to be on Jurgen Klopp’s radar for this summer’s transfer window with the Liverpool boss on the hunt for midfield reinforcements before the window reaches its deadline.
Gini Wijnaldum’s exit from the Anfield camp and subsequent move to Paris Saint-Germain has left Klopp searching for a replacement to fill the void left by the long-serving Dutch midfield maestro in the centre of the park for the Merseysiders.
Sanches is understood to be available for a €40 million price tag with both Liverpool and FC Barcelona, who missed on Wijnaldum’s signing earlier this summer, looking to land the signature of the Portugal international to shore up their ranks.
Liverpool’s alternate targets in the transfer market include Atletico Madrid’s wantaway star Saul Niguez who has been eyed up by local rivals Manchester United as well this summer.
