Manchester United aim to hijack Liverpool’s attempts to sign Saul Niguez

Atletico Madrid’s wantaway midfield man Saul Niguez has been courted heavily by Liverpool in this summer’s transfer window but Jurgen Klopp faces a new challenger for his target in the form of Manchester United.

The Old Trafford giants have expressed interest in signing the Spanish international midfielder, according to reports from the Daily Mail, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to bring in another player to bolster his options in the centre of the park.

Paul Pogba’s long-term future in the Premier League continues to attract speculation in recent times with Ligue 1 heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain linked with a big-money swoop for the Frenchman who has just a year remaining on his deal with the Red Devils.

Liverpool had been backed to be the clear frontrunners in the race to sign Saul this summer with Jurgen Klopp keeping close tabs on the Spaniard as his priority target to fill the void left in the Liverpool midfield by the new Paris Saint-Germain recruit Gini Wijnaldum.

Atletico are understood to be on the lookout for a £45 million transfer fee while Liverpool’s opening bid fell nearly £10 million short of that amount leading to the La Liga holders rebuffing the offer coming from Merseyside.
