5 players Liverpool missed out on signing in the summer transfer window

Liverpool stood in amongst the biggest clubs across the land in this summer’s transfer window with Jurgen Klopp choosing to bring only one fresh face for his Anfield roster.

The signing of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig in a much-anticipated deal was the sole business done on the incoming front by the Merseyside giants who have had to face a lot of flak from the fanbase.

While the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea spent big on high-profile names in the transfer market, despite the departure of the long-serving Gini Wijnaldum, Liverpool chose not to sign the outgoing Dutchman’s replacement in the centre of the park.

Lack of cover for the frontline options of Firmino, Mane and Salah barring Diogo Jota had led to many asking for the Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp to go after attacking reinforcements in the market but to no avail with even the Anfield outcast in Divock Origi being retained beyond this summer by Liverpool.

All in all, it was a transfer window focused on offloading deadwood and handing long-term extensions to star regulars at Anfield rather than prioritise new signings to bolster a side that will be backed to reclaim their title-winning credentials.

Here are 5 players Liverpool missed out on signing in the summer transfer window –

1. Yves Bissouma

The Brighton midfield maestro was tipped to be Liverpool’s ideal target to fill the void left by Gini Wijnaldum’s move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

Despite the rumour mill suggesting that Brighton were open to a sizable offer for Bissouma’s sale, the approach never came from the Liverpool camp to sign the 24-year-old.

2. Florian Neuhaus

Neuhaus was understood to be another name closely tracked by Jurgen Klopp who at the end is rumoured to have delayed a move for the Bundesliga midfield talent until the next summer.

There was much interest in signing the Borussia Moenchengladbach from Liverpool this summer but it seems as if the Merseysiders are willing to wait to land the German’s signature on a cut-price fee.

3. Jarrod Bowen

Jurgen Klopp was believed to be scouting the market for wide players following Xherdan Shaqiri calling it quits at Anfield to sign for Lyon and West Ham United’s Bowen fit the bill for the Liverpool manager’s viable signing.

The Hammers remained firm on their pricing demands which could have put Liverpool off on making a swoop for the high-flying attacker in the last stages of the transfer window.

4. Mikkel Damsgaard

Damsgaard was a sensation during this summer’s UEFA European Championships with the Danish national side and the 20-year-old playmaker found his suitors in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

The Reds, however, did not table a bid for the Sampdoria youngster despite news of the Anfield scouts being in attendance in Italy to watch the target player in action.

5. Lucas Ocampos

The Sevilla winger was another top attacking talent eyed by Liverpool in this summer window with Ocampos’ showings in the La Liga adding to his credentials.

Shaqiri’s exit from the Anfield fold did not change things much for Liverpool who decided against bringing in a fresh face for the frontline.
