3 players Liverpool will be eyeing up as January targets

It has been the start to the new season the Liverpool supporters had hoped for with the club sitting in second place in the standings heading into the ongoing international break.

An unbeaten Reds are just a point adrift of the table-toppers Chelsea and have put out solid displays on all fronts early on this new campaign with only a few chinks in the armour for Jurgen Klopp’s Merseyside men remaining to be resolved as the push for reclaiming the top-flight crown gets revitalised upon the resumption of league action.

The summer transfer window, however, was a major disappointment for those in and around Anfield with Liverpool failing to bolster their depleted first-team ranks which lost the likes of the long-serving midfield anchorman Gini Wijndlaum and a viable attacking option off the bench in Xherdan Shaqiri.

Jurgen Klopp had to bear the brunt of Liverpool’s financial constraints brought on about by the pandemic and had just the young central defender Ibrahima Konate to show for his activity in the market all summer.

Expectations of the Liverpool boss continue to grow by the passing day in the build-up to the January window, midway through the campaign, where the Anfield camp will be backed to bring in fresh blood to the club and shore up a somewhat uninspiring squad depth in key positions.

Here are 5 players we believe will be high on Liverpool’s shopping list for the winter transfer window –

1. Franck Kessie

The AC Milan midfield man has proved to be a contract rebel for the San Siro outfit who could be forced to offload him in January to avoid losing out on him for free the following summer.

Kessie will be difficult to prize away for Liverpool with the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain also keeping tabs on the Ivorian.

2. Aurelien Tchouameni

Another midfield player on Liverpool’s list who has a host of suitors in the market is the 21-year-old Aurelien Tchouameni.

The Monaco starlet has seen his stock grow rapidly in world football and has Liverpool and Chelsea, two of the biggest clubs in England’s top flight, chasing his signature.

Tchouameni’s addition to Liverpool is bound to give Jurgen Klopp a much-needed talent in the centre of the park where options are limited for the gaffer after Wijnaldum’s exit.

3. Marco Asensio

Liverpool’s depth in the attacking roles is quite insignificant by the ever-increasing standards of the Premier League and with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane due to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations, Klopp needs to induct a fresh face sooner rather than later.

Real Madrid first-team outcast Marco Asensio is one name that has been linked with a move to Anfield in the not so recent past and Liverpool are alerted to the possibility of the Spain international wanting to leave Carlo Ancelotti’s side to seal a move elsewhere and ensure regular opportunities on the pitch.
