Liverpool ignored the opportunity to sign Kalvin Phillips this summer

Liverpool ignored the opportunity to sign Kalvin Phillips this summer with the England international ended up joining Manchester City.

The erstwhile Leeds United defensive midfielder was linked with a move to Anfield in this summer’s transfer window with Jurgen Klopp tipped to use the market to bolster his options in the centre of the park.

An approach from Liverpool for the 26-year-old, however, never materialised with the Reds head coach Klopp turning down the chance to bring in Phillips who was viewed as an ideal successor in the midfield role for the skipper Jordan Henderson.

According to a claim from National News Sport, Liverpool also rebuffed opportunities to land Leicester City’s in-demand maestro Youri Tielemans and Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma with the latter having made the move to North Londoners Spurs.

Klopp appears to be done signing new players for his squad this summer after announcing three new recruits in attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho, 34-goal dangerman Darwin Nunez and Scottish full-back Calvin Ramsay.
