Liverpool could miss out on Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips with Man City in the fray

Liverpool could miss out on Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips with Manchester City reportedly readying an offer to sign the England international.

Phillips has been linked with a move to Anfield in the recent past with the Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp keen to add to his options in the heart of the midfield after he parted ways with the long-serving Gini Wijnaldum.

A consistent run of displays at Elland Road since Leeds made their way back to the top flight had made Phillips a standout performer for his side who barely survived the drop zone last season.

According to the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, however, Liverpool are set to be pipped to their long-standing target with arch rivals Manchester City working on a bid to lure Phillips to the Etihad before the summer window closes.

City are willing to dip into the market for a new midfield recruit to replace the veteran Brazil maestro Fernandinho who is leaving the Premier League champions at the end of this month after nine-year-long trophy ladden stint.
