Liverpool could make approach to sign Memphis Depay on a free transfer

Liverpool could make an approach to sign Memphis Depay on a free transfer with the Dutchman likely to terminate his deal at Barcelona this summer.

Depay made the move to Camp Nou last year from Lyon and despite an impressive season in front of the goal from the ex-Manchester United forward, he has fallen down the pecking order after Barca’s spending spree in the summer window.

The likes of Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde and Franck Kessie have been signed by the La Liga giants which could force them to part ways with Depay as they hold talks with his lawyer to cancel his contract and make him a free agent in the market.

According to a claim from The Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp is credited with an interest in the Holland international Depay with the Reds head coach fretting over the rise in injury concerns within his squad ahead of the start of the new season.

Diogo Jota’s injury leaves Klopp one influential man short in his forward lineup and the speculation over Roberto Firmino’s future at the club refuses to die down with the Brazilian entering the final year of his contract.
