Liverpool’s quest for a new defensive midfielder in the current summer transfer window has suffered another significant setback.
The Reds have held a longstanding interest in securing the services of Real Madrid’s midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.
Nonetheless, according to reports from The Athletic, Tchouameni appears to have no intention of departing the Spanish capital during this summer transfer period.
Real Madrid invested more than €100 million to secure the services of the 23-year-old midfielder from AS Monaco in the previous summer.
Initially brought in to potentially replace Casemiro, the player effectively fulfilled this role in the first part of the season but experienced a dip in performance after the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar.
Nevertheless, he continued to be a vital component of Carlo Ancelotti’s team, contributing four assists in a total of 50 appearances across various competitions.
Tchouameni’s statistical performance included an average of 1.9 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per 90 minutes, along with a success rate of 65% in ground duels and 67% in aerial battles.
Looking ahead, the former Monaco player is focused on leaving behind the previous season and showcased his commitment by playing the full 90 minutes in Real Madrid’s 2-0 triumph win in their La Liga season opener.
Tchouameni could have been a valuable addition for Liverpool, a team currently facing a pressing need for a defensive midfielder due to the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to the Saudi Pro League this season.
Unfortunately, despite Liverpool’s interest, Real Madrid are steadfast in their refusal to entertain offers for Tchouameni.

Furthermore, the player himself isn’t inclined towards a departure, having spent only 12 months in the Spanish capital.
Liverpool’s attempts to secure the services of Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo have ended in disappointment, despite agreeing to a substantial £110 million deal with the club.
The Ecuadorian declined an opportunity to join the Reds after previously committing to Chelsea earlier in the summer.
Liverpool could encounter a similar scenario in their pursuit of Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, who is also attracting significant interest from Chelsea.
