Liverpool considering a move for Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips

Liverpool have recently confirmed the signing of Wataru Endo from VfB Stuttgart, and he made his debut just one day later in a 3-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth. However, Jurgen Klopp is not finished in the transfer market.

The Liverpool manager still intends to strengthen the midfield, given the departures that occurred during the summer.

TalkSPORT reports that Kalvin Phillips is a player of interest, with a reported value of £35 million, but there’s a possibility of securing him on loan.

Notably, Liverpool witnessed a mass exodus in their midfield, with Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keïta, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all departing for various clubs.

So far, Liverpool have only made three signings – Endo, Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai – to fill those gaps.

Liverpool made unsuccessful attempts to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton, with Chelsea securing his signature. They also failed in their pursuit of Romeo Lavia, thanks to Chelsea’s intervention.

As a result, Klopp has shifted his focus to Phillips, who could be made available by Manchester City for a loan spell.

The 27-year-old joined Manchester City from Leeds United in 2022 and has made 21 appearances across all competitions.

However, he has played less than 600 minutes, often not starting under Pep Guardiola. Consequently, there’s a possibility that he could be loaned out temporarily to gain regular first-team opportunities.

According to TalkSPORT, Phillips has expressed a desire to compete for his spot at Manchester City.

However, it’s worth noting that he only started two Premier League games in his debut season and hasn’t been utilized in any of their four matches this season, making it challenging for him to secure more playing time.

Rodri has been the preferred choice in Phillips’ preferred position and has performed well, justifying his continued selection.

Liverpool have Stefan Bajcetic, Curtis Jones, and Thiago, in addition to their recent signings. However, Bajcetic is relatively young and lacks experience in the deep-lying role.

Therefore, Phillips could serve as a suitable temporary replacement for players like Keita and Fabinho without Liverpool needing to make a significant financial commitment.
