According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Liverpool are looking to snap up a deal for Real Madrid star winger Marco Asensio in the summer transfer window as Jurgen Klopp is looking to improve his squad for the upcoming season.
The 52-year-old German manager is also looking at back up options if any of his star players leave the club and Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah could be included in the deal for Asensio.
Liverpool was crowned as champions of Europe for the sixth time in their illustrious history after they defeated Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final in Madrid. But despite having their best ever campaign in the Premier League ever since the club was formed in 1892, Liverpool finished in 2nd place on the English table and just one solitary point behind champions Manchester City.
The blue half of Manchester has broken plenty of records over the past two years in the Premier League and look like a complete unit that will dominate the English league for the next few seasons as well. However, Klopp is desperate to dethrone Guardiola’s outfit over the next campaign to end Liverpool’s 30-year long drought for a Premier League title.
The Champions League holders have had a relatively quiet summer transfer window until now as they lured in only 17-year-old central defender Sepp Van Den Berg so far but that could change drastically if they decide to make a move for Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio.
The 23-year-old Asensio is a prime target for a few top clubs in the European continent and Liverpool are looking to throw the kitchen sink at signing the young attacker who is valued at around £75 million by the Spanish outfit. Asensio is a possible replacement for Mohamed Salah if the 26-year-old Egyptian leaves Anfield in the summer.
However, Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane has been a big admirer of Senegalese superstar Sadio Mane and wants the African as part of the deal if Asensio decides to make a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu.
Asensio has not been a regular starter for Real Madrid over the past few seasons but the Spaniard has shown that he has the ability and the skill to play for a top club in Europe on a regular basis if he receives football consistently.
