Liverpool To Make First Signing Of The Summer

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is set to make the first signing of the summer transfer window as they close in on a move for Dutch defender Sepp Van Den Berg from PEC Zwolle.

Liverpool enjoyed their best ever Premier League season ever since the club was formed back in 1892 but the Reds still finished in second place, just one point behind Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. But Klopp is now desperate to dethrone Manchester City in a bid to end Liverpool’s 30-year long wait for a Premier League title.

In order to achieve that feat, the Champions League winners are looking to sign a few players in the summer transfer window to add further depth to their squad. Following the signing of Virgil Van Dijk, Liverpool’s back line has improved tremendously and he has transformed their defense into a rock solid foundation.

But Klopp is looking to add further options for his defense, Liverpool is close to signing teenage sensation Sepp Van Den Berg from Eredivisie club PEC Zwolle. The Dutch U-19 international flew into London today and will travel to Merseyside to complete his medical. The 17-year-old traveled with his parents and agents to crack a deal with the English giants.

Van Den Berg made 15 appearances for Zwolle this season and put in some stellar performances which attracted interest from European giants including Bayern Munich, PSV Eindhoven and Dutch champions Ajax but Liverpool are set to beat all their rivals to the signature of the young center back.

A transfer fee of around €1.9 million before add-ons is set to be offered by Liverpool for the confirmation of the deal for Van Den Berg to complete a move to Anfield. The Liverpool transfer board made a similar deal from Charlton when they signed Joe Gomez back in 2014.
