Ranking five of Liverpool FC’s greatest performers of the 2019-20 season

As the 2019-20 Premier League-winning campaign for the Reds comes to end with a visit to Newcastle United on the season’s last matchday, we take a look at five of Liverpool FC’s best performers this season.

It has to be said that the entirety of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad has been absolutely phenomenal on the pitch. However, some players have stood out with their great showings this season in the Liverpool FC shirt.

5. Trent Alexander Arnold

The Scouser’s stature in world football is on the climb following his debut for the Merseyside club four years ago. The previous two campaigns have seen Arnold excel in the right-back spot, with the 21-year old’s fantastic crossing ability and a terrific range of passing make him a serious contender for the assist’s record tally, which is usually dominated by midfield or attacking players.

However, alongside his attacking responsibilities, Arnold has been a major defensive presence as well for the Reds this season. Often criticized for his failure to cope up with speedy wingers on the flank, the young fullback has added a great amount of maturity to his game in recent times.

Moreover, his ability to find the back of the net through his curling free-kicks has been a welcome boost for Liverpool FC. The English international has scored four goals this season for the Reds, besides setting up his teammates 13 times in the Premier League.

4. Mohammad Salah

Some people would put up the argument of Salah being further up the ranks of Liverpool FC’s most influential players this season. However, it has to be noted that there are certain players who have performed better than the Egyptian for the Reds during the 2019-20 league campaign.

The 28-year old winger is chasing a phenomenal record of scoring 20 or more goals in three consecutive league campaigns. Salah’s importance to Jurgen Klopp’s side is paramount whenever he takes the pitch. His quirky turns, rapid pace, and the ability to make superb runs through the opposition defense make him one of the best forwards in the world.

With 19 league goals to his name at the moment, the 28-year old will be gunning to score his 20th of the season against Newcastle United on Sunday.

3. Virgil van Dijk

The Dutch international’s arrival at Anfield in January 2018 shook things up at the Merseyside club. The colossal center-back has single-handedly transformed the fortunes of the Liverpool FC backline. A defense that was earlier plagued with frequent errors is now considered one of the best in the world, thanks to the 29-year old Van Dijk.

The former Southampton man has not missed a single Premier League game this season for the Reds. Appearing all of the 37 league fixtures played till now, Van Dijk has been a superb presence in the Liverpool FC back four.

Over the 3330 minutes, he has clocked this season in league football, the Dutch international has won an average of five Aerial duels each game and has a tremendously high passing success rate of 88.9%.

2. Sadio Mane

Liverpool FC’s number ten has been in flying form this season, with the Senegalese being a constant menace for opposition sides with his instinctive finishing and nifty dribbling ability. Mane has been a very prominent presence on the pitch for the Reds this season in the Premier League and has come in clutch for his side on several occasions.

The 28-year old trails Salah by only two goals in the goalscoring charts, with Mane notching up 17 goals and seven assists in the 30 games he has started for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season. In addition to his prowess in front of goal, Mane’s brilliant linkup play with Roberto Firmino is also worth being noted.

Despite rumors linking the Senegal international with a move to Real Madrid, Mane remains focused on being a wonderful performer for Liverpool FC. During his trade for the Reds, the 28-year old has established himself to be one of the greatest wingers in world football.

1. Jordan Henderson

Very few will doubt the impact Liverpool FC’s skipper has had on the side this season. Despite the constant media scrutiny regarding his playing style, Henderson has silenced all critics with his fantastic run of performances for the Premier League champions this season.

The 30-year old has been a solid presence in the Liverpool FC midfield, now operating in a box-to-box role. Playing in a more advanced midfield role has allowed Henderson to thrive due to his familiarity with that position having played there during his Sunderland days. The English international has also racked up four goals and five assists this season, despite a knee injury allowing him to play only 30 games this Premier League campaign.

Considered a favorite to clinch the PFA Player of the Year award, the 2019-20 season has in all certainty been Henderson’s year. It would be fair to say that the Reds skipper has stepped out of Steven Gerrard’s shadow and made his name as a legend for the Merseyside giants.
